Humane Program Working With Juvenile Detention Centre To Stop Animal Cruelty

The Humane Society of Huron Valley is reaching out to at-risk youth to educate them about the proper care of animals and hopefully stop the cycle of Animal Cruelty.

The Humane Society was able to start the program in October thanks to a $44,000 grant from the James A. and Faith Knight Foundation.

The Humane Society of Huron Valley investigates approximately 500 reports of Animal Cruelty each year.

“It is well documented that early Abusers of Animals often go on to engage in Violence and other Antisocial acts,” said Karen Patterson, director of Humane Education.

The Humane Society is hoping to help break the cycle of animal abuse by reaching out to at-risk youth.

Every Sunday Karen Patterson and Alex Ball go to the Washtenaw County Juvenile Detention Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They teach the kids there how to Care for Pets and give them an opportunity to interact with one of the Shelter Dogs.

The Program covers topics on Pet Safety, Animal Communication, Caring for Pets at Home, showing Respect and Compassion for Animals and Dog Cruelty.

The Humane Society hopes the program will benefit the troubled youth. “Our goals are to educate, and we want to rehabilitate too,” said Ball.

“We want to show we have Animals here that are always Compassionate. They Don’t Judge, They Don’t see Jumpsuits, and they Want to be loved.”

The kids at the centre love the program. “It’s a nice treat for them,” said Youth Counselor Kevin Lockhart.

The kids have been learning a lot from the program and have enjoyed having the Dogs around.

“It just gives you that warm, cuddly, comforting feeling that you can’t get from a human,” said 14-year-old Unique. “Dogs just have it, they just have that demeanor about them. It helps.”

Man Who Killed and ate A PUPPY

A  Man who KILLED and ATE a PUPPY in Front of Horrified Onlookers, Including a Five-Year-Old Child, Has Been Fined More Than $2500.

Daniel Thomas Adriaens from Fitzroy Crossing appeared in Fitzroy Crossing Magistrate’s Court yesterday before West Kimberley Magistrate Colin Roberts, who had previously described the incident as “abhorrent and shocking“, and the worst case of animal cruelty he had seen.

Adriaens, a chronic solvent sniffer living in a humpy near the Fitzroy River, pleaded guilty in September last year to ill-treating the animal but claimed he had killed it humanely.

The court was told that about 6pm on April 23, 2011, a passerby had heard a puppy yelping near the river and found Adriaens cutting its throat with a knife. By the time police attended, he had gutted and roasted it and cut off its ears, storing one in his backpack.

He told police he had done it because he was “starving hungry”.

Magistrate Roberts fined Adriaens $2500 plus costs for the charge of animal cruelty, and $500 plus costs for a charge regarding a burning permit.

Officials were greeted by a Heartwrenching Situation – Dogs, Crammed into Inadequate kennels, living in their own waste, and starving.

Dogs Slated To Die

After Being Saved From Their Owners, Now They Are Facing Death

One dog was so emaciated that he had to be euthanized – the other, all skeletal, were taken to the Mobile County Animal Shelter.

Though the shelter sent out a plea for foster homes to area residents – only two dogs were rescued.

The others? “No interest”.

Dogs who have spent their entire lives enduring a pitiful existence generated no compassionate interest locally and now, they are facing death.

On Thursday, 8 September 2011, if no rescue steps forward, the surviving dogs – dogs who have never known kindness or compassion – will be killed.

Dogs that were treated so horribly that their owner,  Cheyenne Earl Owens, 44, was sent to jail on 8 counts of animal cruelty.

About The Mobile County Animal Shelter

The Mobile County Animal Shelter is required by the State of Alabama to enforce animal control laws. These laws are designed to protect the public’s health, safety and welfare. They also are intended to minimize the suffering of unwanted animals that have been abandoned and have no source of food or medical care.

At the same time, the shelter seeks to promote the adoptions of unwanted animals and to provide the highest level of care for those in its custody. Its shelter at 7665 Howell’s Ferry Road provides segregated kennels to accommodate stray dogs on 7-day hold, dogs that are quarantined due to illness or bites, and adoptable dogs. It also provides a separate area for cats.

In addition to control and adoptions of unwanted animals, the Mobile County Animal Shelter is charged with investigation of animal cruelty and dog bite cases.

6 Month Old Puppy Tortured

The Puppy That Refused To Die: Maggie May the Lurcher Survives Shocking Torture by Callous Thugs

  • Three ‘Thug’ Mates Admit Horrific Animal Cruelty
  • They Fractured Six-Month-Old’s Neck and Stabbed Her with Potato Peeler
  • But RSPCA Inspector says Maggie May is Happy Now

Shocking Cruelty: Maggie May was left in excruciating pain, but she is much happier now.

She was left for dead when thugs stamped on her head, fractured her neck and stabbed her with a potato peeler before throwing her over a fence.

But today Maggie May the lurcher is finally putting that horrific day behind her after a terrible case of animal cruelty.

She now happily walks on three legs – the sad result of torture at the hands of three callous brutes – but is now safe in a loving new home and amazingly trusting despite her ordeal.

Maggie May’s nightmare began when she was badly injured after being hit by a taxi.

Rather than rush her to a vet, her 18-year-old owner, Kieran Wynn, first tried his own brand of DIY treatment by attempting to patch her up with a splint made from chopsticks, red lace and Sellotape.

Then two friends came round to his home in Ferryhill, County Durham, and decided to finish her off.

Sick pals Kevin Varty and Andrew Painter first tried to kill the six-‑month-old pup by treading on her head and yanking her body, fracturing her neck.

When that failed, and with the puppy in excruciating pain, Painter began repeatedly stabbing her with a potato peeler in a frantic attempt to kill her.

Safe Now: 6 Months Old 3 Legged Maggie May pictured with RSPCA inspector Claire Wilson was left for dead by 3 thugs who stamped on her head, fractured her neck and repeatedly stabbed her with a potato peeler

Then, thinking they had killed her, she was bundled over a fence because they could not be bothered to bury her.

But it was that incompetence that saved her life because she was spotted by a passer-by.

Maggie May, now barely breathing, was taken to the RSPCA who got her the expert veterinary care she so badly needed – yet her recuperation still needed several weeks.

Kevin Varty

Justice was in part done when Varty, 43, of Ferryhill, and Painter, 32, of Spennymoor, were both jailed for 18 weeks and banned from keeping animals for life by Newton Aycliffe Magistrates, County Duham, England.

Wynn’s sentence was adjourned until later this month. All three admitted cruelty charges.

RSPCA inspector Claire Wilson said: ‘This is the most horrible and shocking case I have ever had to deal with, but Maggie May has gone through it and come out the other side.

‘She is a happy little dog now.’

If Slaughter Houses and Farm Sheds Had Glass Walls

Appalling Cruelty To Chickens, Turkey’s, Pigs, Pigglets, Cattle, Cows, Calfs, Fish and Dolphins.

Sir Paul McCartney Talks About “If Slaughter Houses  Had Glass Walls We Would All Be – Vegetarian”

Paul McCartney narrates and describes the appauling cruelty carried out on Animals on Farms and in Slaughter Houses. These are the Animals we get our meat from and you will find in any Supermarket, Fast Food Outlet or Farm Shop.

It is widely thought by the majority of people that they are happy to eat meat but don’t actually want to see the animal they are going to eat actually being killed.

When you sit down for your meal which includes meat or fish you don’t begin to think, I wonder how this animal was killed. If we did though, we would probably rightly assume, it was killed humanly. So we are all clear, when we say humanly, we mean killed by a human in the most painless way possible. Which should mean in these times, by adhering to working within the stricktists Guidlines that must be in place including clear rules, regulations on Animal Welfare, the technology, facilities and equipment available, be instant and painless.

The Unthinkable Cruelty is Happening To Animals

But let’s say you knew in order to eat what was in front of you an Animal whether it was a Chicken, Turkey, Pig, Cattle, Cow, Fish or Dolphin had been Terribly Beaten, Horrendously Abused, Unbelievable Pain Inflicted, Housed and Transported in Appalling Conditions, Intolerable Acts of Brutality and if all that was not enough to be Tortured and left for Dead at the point of Slaughter (Being Killed in a Slaughter House).

On farms Animals Suffer the most terrible conditions from birth in which they live, are treated and handled. In the Slaughter House Animals prior to Killing are tortured, abused and handled in the most cruel ways imaginable. At the time of Killing, Animals are not Killed Properly and are left for dead, in other words where the Animal should be Dead it is not. It is left with the most unthinkable, appalling and sickening injuries. These same Animals with Heads hanging off, Guts hanging out they are still Alive in Severley Wounded Writhing in Agony. Animals on Hooks that should be stunned are still freely moving around as their throats are cut and left screaming as they Bleed to Death.

Society Turning a Blind Eye To Animal Cruelty!

Why the people that carry out these acts are not behind bars. Why these Farms are not shut down and farmers prosecuted and Abbatoirs closed the Agriculture Departments, Police, Vets and other Workers are turning a blind eye because many people don’t care, don’t want to know or just don’t know.

If you are one of those people, you have now been given a small insight into what really happens to Animals. This Article began with the words glass walls, well if all farms and slaughter houses had glass walls two things would happen. The first,  Animals would not be treated in such unthinkable ways. The second,  we would be, we would all be Vegaterians.

But these places don’t have glass walls and this is your opportunity to see past these walls and face up to what is going on.
